Paper Length: At least 6 pages
Note:
1) UTK means the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. And UT means the University of Tennessee.
2) Make sure to write the Qualitative essay according to the example PDFs I have provided in the attachments below (Sample 1 and 2).
Purpose of Qualitative Research:
So far, we have talked about secondary research and archival research projects. Now that you have investigated your topic, it is time to see what people think about your topic. In other words, you will need to ask people’s opinions, attitudes, and/or perceptions about a specific food-related topic. For instance, you might be interested in the following questions:
What kinds of foods do people from TN eat? How do they cook?
Do students see UT’s campus food options as sufficient?
In this paper, you will use interviews or questionnaires to explore people’s perceptions of your food-related topic. Your paper should present an evidence-based answer to your research questions (or a question you have clarified in advance with me).
After collecting your interview or survey data, analyze it and draw conclusions from your information—answers to your research question.
Your essay will present the conclusions you draw from your research—evidence-based findings that answer your research question. Your main point, often stated at the end of your introduction, will be a statement of your findings—that is, the “answer” to your research question.
Use visual elements to present numerical results, if applicable and appropriate.
Provide proper in-text citations (if needed, which means that you don’t really have to use citations if you don’t need to) and a Works Cited page.
Objective and Research Questions:
For this project, your goal is to find out what other people think about a specific food-related topic and how people’s understandings might differ about your topic. To do that, you will create and administer surveys and interviews. You will then analyze/interpret your data and present your findings in a written research report. You will also write up your reflections on your research process.
I have gathered my own data, and it’s about “Food Quality and services on UTK Campus). See the attachment below about “My Questionnaire”. (Make sure to write my data when you are writing the essay).
Assignment steps:
Collect your data: Use surveys (5-20 people) or interviews (4-6 people) to gather information about people’s thoughts about your food-related topic: what do they know and their attitudes about it? Use additional methods—interviews—as needed to follow up on critical perspectives you discover in your survey. Make sure you use a specific group (e.g. your family, dorm friends, etc.).
Analyze/interpret your data After collecting your data, analyze it and develop conclusions from your information—answers to your research question.
Present your findings in a
research report:
Your essay will include sections 1-6 below.
Section 1–Introduction: After some background information, explain what your research question was.
Section 2–Methods: Explain the decisions you made in planning the project: The participants in the study; the instrument you used to collect data (e.g. questionnaires or interviews); the data collection and data analysis procedure. i.e.: HOW THE DATA WERE COLLECTED AND THE STUDY WAS CONDUCTED!
Section 3–Results: Using tables, charts, and/or figures, summarize the answers you got (your evidence-based findings), noting any critical trends and groupings. Refer to actual data to support your presentation.
Section 4–Discussion: Based upon your data, what interpretations can you make about different generational understanding and knowledge regarding your food-related topic? For example, if you compared American and international students on how they perceive restaurant options at UT, try to see WHY you found any potential similarities and differences. i.e. WHAT THE RESULTS MEAN!
Section 5–Conclusions: What are the major shortcomings of your research? What practical implications have you reached as a result?
Section 6 – Works Cited page
Section 7 – Appendix A: Include your survey and/or interview protocols, your informed consent form for the interview
Another Note: The example PDFs provided do not
include the “mean”, I have provided for my information the means for
each question, so make sure to explain the means too.
