Review the basic information about the Project to help you decide on a Project topic.
Suggested Subjects and TopicsHere are a few suggested subjects and topics for your Project to consider, but not limited to:
Attend a cultural, social, religious, etc. practice, ceremony, ritual. For example, a Greek wedding, debutante ball, Quinceanera (15th) birthday for Hispanic girls, or gay parade. You also can interview an individual or individuals who have participated in the event, for example the parents of the groom at a Greek wedding.
Attend a practice, ceremony, ritual, etc. associated with a particular group or individual. For example, a military retirement ceremony, a school graduation (e.g., high school, college). Or, interview the group or individual who has participated in such a ceremony or ritual. For example, a college graduate who is the first in her/his family to complete a college degree.
Observe or interview an individual or group of professionals of their special skills or type of work (e.g., tattoo artist).

Post a brief summary of the topic you have selected for your Ethnography Research Project and the three (3) questions, which you will research and investigate for your Project.
Your instructor must review and approve your topic selection and research questions before you can begin working on your Project. This is to ensure that the topic and questions you’ve selected for your Project are appropriate and can be addressed within the time frame and deadlines of the Project assignment.
Preparation of Recording
To ensure the smooth and efficient completion of your Ethnography Research Project, it’s important to make certain preparations such as preparing the equipment or materials you’ll need and use for your video recording and becoming familiar with their operating procedures; scheduling the time and location for the video recording with Participants; obtaining the approval and signature(s) on the Letter of Consent – Release Agreement from each Participant who will be in the video recording.
Check that you have the necessary battery, adapter, storage media, etc. components to operate the video recording equipment. If it’s been awhile since you’ve used your equipment, review and test that the recording, saving, playback, etc. functions operate properly.
If you checked out an iPad from NOVA Online, become familiar with how it operates. Practice the record, save, and delete functions on the iPad. For example, do a recording of yourself.
Check out the location where you will do the video recording. If indoors, is there adequate lighting?
Are there ambient sounds or background noises, which will be picked up by the video recorder and detract from the interview, event, etc.?
Coordinate and schedule the date, time, and location for the video recording with your research Participants.
Obtain all participants’ signatures on the release agreement form if their name, likeness, voice, or biographical information will be used in the video and in the SOC 211 course in Canvas. Part 2. Purpose
Given the video recording equipment and Participants, complete the video recording for your Project and begin writing the publish of your Ethnography Research Project Report.After you complete Part 2 of your Project, you will have:Recorded the video.

In this assignment you’ll actually record the video and write the publish of your Ethnography Research Project Report.Record Video
Now you should have prepared the video recording equipment, which you’ll use for your Ethnography Research Project, and familiarized yourself with its operation. You also coordinated with your Participant(s) the date, time, and location to record the video, reviewed the Letter of Consent – Release Agreement with the Participant(s), and obtained the person(s)’s signature on the Agreement, if applicable.Here are a few suggestions for a successful video recording experience. Please refer to the grading rubric for the video of the project in Research Project: Part 3 – Submit Video. Review the information, notes, etc. you have gathered from your research on your selected topic.Having information and knowledge about your selected topic beforehand helps you to remain focused on your research questions during the video recording, anticipate possible follow-up questions, and prepare you to collect information related to your questions.
Write your three (3) questions on a notepad and rehearse asking your questions the day before the scheduled video recording.Are your questions stated clearly? Anticipate the Participant(s) asking you to repeat the questions or to clarify and elaborate what you’re asking.
Arrive at least one (1) hour before the scheduled time for the video recording.Use the time to set up the location or room, check the lighting, and ambient sounds. Test the recording, pause, resume, save, etc., operating procedures on the video recording equipment.
Do a “dress rehearsal” before doing the actual video recording.Review the questions with the Participant. Describe the procedure for the video recording – e.g., when the video recorder begins recording, paused, etc. Try to make the Participant comfortable and at ease. Relax!
Ask the Participant for a “retake” or 2nd video recording, if needed.
Thank the Participant for doing the video recording and express your appreciation.
Begin publish of Project Report
Download and save a copy of the Ethnography Project Report Template [.docx]. The Template specifies the sections and information requirements of the Report and the basis on which your Report will be reviewed and graded.
Review the video recording and your research notes as you write the Report.
The format requirements for the Report are:Use sans-serif font, 12-point size, regular, and black color. Use double-line spacing; bold text for titles and subtitles is optional.
Include a Cover Page with the title of your Project; the course prefix, number and name; your name; and date.
Limit the main section or body of your Report to a minimum of three (3) pages but not to exceed five (5).
List References on a separate, last page of the Report. All citations must follow APA format guidelines. Refer to the Purdue Online Writing Lab web site for details.
The sections and information requirements of the Report are:Introduction.
Purpose Statement (Goal).
Main Section (Refer to Project Report Template).
Personal Reflections and Insights.
Conclusion or Summary.
References.
Develop a publish of your Project Report based on the above criteria, which you will submit in later in the course.
Part 3
Directions
Please polish your project report and revise it based on the grading rubric. Make sure you have followed the directions and met the criteria.Submission
