How I will evaluate your Final Projects
The Basics (15 points)
*Length of your papers (a minimum of 7 pages, double-spaced in 12-point Garamond, Bell MT or Times New Roman fonts.)
*Margins should be 1 inch on all sides.
*Avoid extra spaces between paragraphs and other strange spacing things.
*I prefer that blocks of quoted material be put in 10-point font.
*Quoted material should not exceed 25% of the paper.
*Quotes need to be cited somehow. If you’re quoting Person X, make sure it’s clear Person X said the quote. If you’re quoting a book, cite the page number. If you’re citing an episode of “Connect the Dots,” cite the date of the episode.
Argument and Evidence
*You’re going to create an argument that somehow answers your research question. My preference is that you clearly state your argument in your introduction. I do like bold thesis statements, though this is not required.
For those of you doing Option A, this is going to come out of your interview data
*The argument should be well-supported with evidence. As I stated in class, you do not have to quote your data, but in this case, you will need to paraphrase. Be as specific as possible.
Clarity (15 points)
*Your paper should begin with an introduction followed by supporting paragraphs, and it should end with a conclusion.
*Paragraphs are strongest when they have a unique purpose in the larger paper. They should begin with a topic sentence and end with a concluding sentence.
*I prefer clear language.
Recordings – Option A (50 points)
The points for recordings are high, because of all the work involved in writing questions, finding interviewees, and then conducting 30-minute interviews with at least three people. I will not deduct points unless the interviews are too short or there is some obvious problem with the content of the interviews.
