ScenarioMcIntosh Family Clinic is a small physician’s clinic that schedules between 5,000 to 6,000 patients a year. McIntosh Family Clinic provides services to men, women, and children. Their medical services include physical exams, sports physicals, blood tests and EKGs, worker’s compensation, management of acute and chronic diseases, and minor surgeries. The clinic employs three physicians certified in family medicine, five nurses, three lab technicians, two office clerks with Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certifications, and one medical office administrator with a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification.
McIntosh Family Clinic had decided to implement a computer-assisted coding (CAC) system to assist their office administrator and clerks in effectively assigning medical codes. With the implementation of the medical coding system, the clinic hopes to increase productivity and prevent denials due to medical coding and documentation issues. McIntosh Family Clinic has an established electronic health record (EHR) system in place. The computer-assisted coding system would need to integrate with the current EHR.
The medical office administrator has been tasked with overseeing the implementation of the new computer-assisted coding system and has contacted your company, CAC Systems Incorporated, for a demonstration of the company’s CAC system. As a consultant for CAC Systems Incorporated, you are asked to prepare and present a presentation of the CAC system for McIntosh Family Clinic. All of the clinic’s employees will be in attendance for the presentation.
