Your final project for the course will be due by the end of the day Friday, Dec. 9. Copied below is the assignment & rubric that will be used to grade it. Begin thinking about how you want to complete this. The actual assignment will be available in the last module, after the chapter 16 module.
Here are some project formats to consider. Your project can be as plain or fancy as you like. The important thing is that it include the required information in an easy-to-read format. If you have any questions about how to use the technology you want to use, please ask and I can probably help you. I recommend choosing a format that you are already at least somewhat familiar with.
Create a physical booklet and submit photos or scans of each page (or bring me a copy if you’re on campus)
Create the project in a Word or Google document, or in PowerPoint or Google Slides and submit the document
Create a webpage and submit the link. There are several free easy-to-use webpage builders like Google Sites, Adobe Express & Wix
Purpose of the Reference Guide Project
You’ll have noticed by now that learning Latin means learning involves learning several discrete things: what words mean (vocabulary); how words are built, including memorizing endings (morphology); how words work together (syntax/grammar) and create meaning (semantics); and how to efficiently and accurately refer to resources to help you in these tasks. In this project, you will compile the basic resources and explain foundational topics of Latin grammar. Many students in previous semesters have created a functional resource for their own continued study of the language.
Book Resources to Use to Complete this Project
Use the book’s index to find topics. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, ask me and I will happily direct you to it. It begins on p. 369
There’s a vocabulary-by-chapter section that begins on p. 323 — this may be useful for a couple of the items
The table of contents offers details of the sections in each chapter. It begins in p. V
A comprehensive morphology section begins on p. 307. If you use this, read the headers carefully — there’s a lot back there you haven’t learned yet
Other things to know
Explanations need not be lengthy; consider using bulleted lists where appropriate
Give each section, including your tables, a meaningful & accurate title so it is clear to me what information you’re providing
Put explanations into your own words(do not copy text from the book or the internet) and create your own tables (do not copy/paste or screen-grab them from the internet; you can use published tables from the course, textbook or other sources as models)
For a few items, I specify that you use a table. You can use tables for other items, too.
Organize your project according to the rubric — this will help you make sure you include all the required information and will make it easier for me to grade
Submit your project as a single file (if submitting a file instead of a link). If you need help merging multiple files or images, search for “how to combine images/files on a Mac/PC.” If you’re still having trouble, please ask — I can help
