Numerous projects have emerged across the Humanities (Ethnic Studies, English, History, Anthropology, Philosophy, and other related fields that study the forces at work in being human) that have engaged the public in largely untold stories of injustice in hopes of challenging common mythologies and illuminating the need for change. Rather than limiting these efforts to the walls of college and university classrooms and research spaces, these projects see the communities around them as important spaces to investigate, build tools and resources for the general public to explore pursuit of their own curiosity or in efforts to push for social change, and encourage public participation in the projects’ research and interpretation processes. For this final assignment of the semester, you will take a deep look at one of these projects, describe its purposes and methods, engage the project’s public interfaces and consider their importance, and draw connections between the project and the other materials and themes we have touched on in class.
To do this, you will choose one of the following two projects and answer the associated prompts. This is a final assignment, so your answers should be substantial and thoughtful! Compile your answers in a document (preferably Word).
Option 1: Indigenize Milwaukee
This project out of Marquette University’s Indigeneity Lab is mapping significant sites of Milwaukee’s Indigenous past and present.

If so, how? How might public interaction change the nature of a project like this, and why might it be important?
Does this project reflect or connect to any of the materials or themes of this past semester? If so, how? Make at least 3 connections.
Option 2: Whose Land?
This collaborative project brings together colleges and universities and communities from New York and Wisconsin, including UWM, in illuminating shared histories of land loss and dispossession in these two states and beyond.
