Using the informal fallacies discussed in lectures and other course material, write a paper committing each fallacy, i.e., a list of examples of arguments showing each fallacy. This is not in an essay format. Except for the fallacies of ambiguity, the paper or examples will be graded on grammar. The fallacy of vague term does not need to be included in the paper. (2-3pages)
The topic for the argument examples should be related to a hypothetical town council meeting where there’s a debate about whether to rezone downtown San Jose for a red light district. This is where downtown San Jose would be zoned off for a legalized prostitution, drugs, and gambling. So these would only be legal in this area. Outside of the zone, it would still be illegal. Some arguments for a RLD are economic since it brings in revenue for the city, it would keep undesirable people and crime in a certain area and therefore easier to control, or it would allow more jobs. Arguments against the RLS could be moral arguments, it would cause the spread of crime, diseases, etc., it would destroy the family, etc. Each example should state whether the argument is for or against the rezoning so I know what position is being taken. You can switch positions with each fallacy as well. One example for each fallacy is all that’s needed. A premise and conclusion should be included with each example. Usually the conclusion will be ” . . . therefore you/we should/shouldn’t vote for rezoning for a RLD. A few fallacies are difficult to show for or against, such as amphiboly. At least show within the topic though. Also, some fallacies only need a premise, such as amphiboly, complex question, and rhetorical question.
The paper should be formatted in the following way:
