Writing about film is different from writing about a poem but similar to writing about fiction or plays. After going over the lecture notes on reviewing versus interpretive analysis, write a short review and a short interpretation based on the guidelines below for the film. .
Paragraph 1
Choose one character and 3-4 scenes the character appears in the film
Write a short review of the character’s performance based on those scenes. Start with a rating from 1-5.
Paragraph 2
Apply one or more of the literary lenses. Write an interpretation of the same character’s actions, traits, decision-making, motives or conflicts.
Or you may state a theme of the film and argue how the character’s actions, dialogue or thoughts support that theme.
Paragraph 3
Explain what you learned about the difference between reviewing the film and interpreting it.

Comparison and Contrast is a major cornerstone of critical/creative thinking. There are several ways to compare and contrast two films. We can compare/contrast our experiences with the films. We might compare/contrast which film evokes our imagination more or our moral compass more. We might compare/contrast which film evokes a greater awareness about an issue or even ourselves. We might rate two films in terms of their use of elements. We might rate the actors portrayal of their characters. The list goes on an on. What ever we focus on in is we compare/contrast, we must compare the same thing and that same thing must be significant, and we must weigh one film against the other. In other words, we don’t just list similarities and differences. Take a look at this four-step process on how to approach a comparison/contrast. Take a look at the video lecture I made to explore how to compare/contrast these two films.Now it’s your turn.
1.Compare/Contrast anything you wish about these two films. Post here the end result. In other words, in your journal, brainstorm.Use the four steps to explore a comparative analysis on the assigned films for this Module (Nine to Five and Tick, Tick… Boom!).
Then post here a tentative comparative central idea and thesis.
Use the central idea and thesis in my video lecture as a model.
Now find at least one scene in the film that support it. Summarize the scene. If you still have access to the film, cite the time code. Or cite the page number of the script.
