Step 1 – Gather Historic Financial & Calculate Ratios
Download the company’s latest FY financial reports from either EDGAR or the company’s Investor Relations page
Import the financials into this workbook
– Link historic data to the financial model tabs
– Calculate IS and BS Ratios and Common Size Statements
– Review historical data for “one-time” items, make normalizing adjustments to the data
– Identify key revenue drivers from your research
– Determine appropriate forecast values and build revenue model (e.g. growth, price * quantity, market share)
– Calculate remaining Income Statment variables using historic ranges
– Leave D&A and Interest Exp Blank
Step 2 – Build Balance Sheet, Capex, and Depreciation Schedules
– Using historic ratios and IS values calculate BS accounts
– From your research determine the forecast Capex values
– Establish D&A Schedule
– Link back to IS and complete BS accounts
Step 3 – Complete the Cash Flow Statement, Debt and Cash Revolvers
– Link the IS and BS accounts to the CF statement for the Operating and Investing CFs
– Build your Cash and Debt revolvers – using research for upcoming debt payments and min cash balances
– Link Debt balances back to IS for INT Exp calculations
– Ensure CF and BS checks tie out
