The ability to speak clearly is a valuable tool. Speaking clearly entails outlining and explaining concepts in a way that is organized, concise, and engaging. Clear speaking is easy to follow and easy to understand.
This assignment calls for you to choose a concept (or a topic) and explain it within an organized framework. It also asks you to explain your ideas in ways that are clear and easy to follow.
You have already selected and researched your topic in the last module. Now you will take that information and develop a full-sentence outline of your presentation. I have created a worksheet and template to guide you through that process to ensure that you have all of the required information and elements for the assignment.
Requirements
The speech should be 4-6 minutes.
You should have a minimum of four academic sources. Academic sources include sources such as scholarly books and journal articles, statistics, facts or figures from Census.org or Pew Research.
Use notes and speak extemporaneously. This is closer to how you will likely deliver presentations in school and in your career. You will have brief notes on note cards to keep you on track and help you remember what you want to say. You should glance at them as needed and then look up at and talk to your audience. Do not write your speech out as a script and read it to your audience or attempt to memorize your speech.
The speech should be well organized, using an appropriate organizational pattern. This means that the progression of ideas should be logical and the major points must stand out from the subpoints that develop them.
Adhere to the principles of clear explanation (use transitions).
A typed, full-sentence outline (following the supplied template) is required along with a complete reference list in correct format APA 7th edition format.
Orally cite all the materials used in constructing your speech while you are presenting. Be professional. For example, be prepared, know how to pronounce all of the words in your presentation, eliminate background distractions as much as possible, and appear professional (dress as if you are going to a meeting—no need for a suit and tie, though).
Record your presentation.
