Needed assistance in writing a petition to reinstate for another term. I was admitted to a master’s program last term under limited status meaning I needed to maintain a 2.75 GPA. I only took one class and received a B- as a final grade. Since the grading scale is based on points, the B- makes my GPA a 2.67 which is under the cumulative GPA. Below is what is required for a petition. Just need to explain that I’m ready to take the steps to improve if given a chance.
REINSTATEMENT AFTER DISMISSAL FOR LOW GPAStudents who are dropped from the Graduate College because of a low term or cumulative GPA must petition to continue to register in the program. If approved, students are reinstated on academic probation for one semester.
The following items are needed before the petition can be submitted for Graduate College review:
Student’s explanation of circumstances leading to low grades and steps being pursued to improve academic performance (to be provided by the student)
Advisor and/or department statement that demonstrates support for a student to raise the GPA.

Graduate students must make satisfactory progress in all aspects of their degree programs in order to continue to pursue a graduate degree. Graduate programs consider many factors in determining whether or not a student is making satisfactory progress. These factors include the cumulative grade-point average (GPA) and term (semester) GPA.
You were admitted on limited status or were on probation last term, and therefore, required to have earned your program’s minimum cumulative GPA and term GPA greater than 2.75 at the end of this term.
As you have been unable to achieve the required GPA by the stated time, I regret to inform you that you are being dropped from the Graduate College and are prohibited from further registration. If you believe that your circumstances are such that your department would support a petition to the Graduate College to appeal your dismissal and allow you to register for the upcoming term, you should contact your adviser or Director of Graduate Study immediately to discuss your options.
