3. After listening to LG 13, describe the musical differences you hear between the recitative and the beginning of the aria. *Hint: Use the Open ILG (Interactive Listening Guide) for this example so you can see where the Recitative ends and the Aria begins.
a. As the aria continues, are there any musical elements that remain the same as they were in the recitative? What are they?

5. After listening to the “Hallelujah Chorus” (the second example of LG 15), how does Handel approach word painting in a similar way as we discussed in the chapters from last week? Describe one example that you hear in the piece.
6. After reading about the typical subject material for an oratorio, think of one modern idea for the plot of an oratorio and briefly describe what it would be. (Feel free to give a non-religious example, if you prefer).
