1.Social Determinants of health are defined as non-medical factors that influence health outcomes and can include the following: socioeconomic status, affordable housing in geographical area, access to affordable health services, or genetics. Risk factors on the other hand are the individual-level behaviors that can increase the likelihood of developing a certain disease (World Health Organization, 2019). With this in mind I will discuss both the determinants and risk factors for prostate cancer. This form of cancer is defined as a malignant growth of cells within the prostate gland of a male. This gland is found only in the male reproductive system so it will only affect that biological gender (National Cancer Institute, n.d.).
Risk Factors & Determinants of Selected Disease
With this disease there can be several risk factors that adversely affect an individual’s chances of developing the disease. According to research these factors can include environmental factors such as smoking and obesity, as well as history of vasectomy. When discussing determinants for this disease it seems that genetics can play a large role. This means that if a family member has developed this form of cancer, it will increase the chance of their offspring developing the disease. Another important determinant can be ethnicity as people of color (POC) are shown to be at significantly higher risk than their Caucasian counterparts, this is thought to be due to differences in the androgen receptor (AR) gene. Finally, another genetic factor that can contribute to the risk is gene polymorphisms of certain genes within the body (Kral et al., 2010).
Public Health Strategies
In order to improve an individual’s odds of not developing this form of cancer I would recommend the following public health strategies. First, I would recommend any individual who undergoes a vasectomy should have mandatory education on this disease with emphasis on smoking and diet. Another recommendation I would make is to educate health care clinicians for when they have patients who have a genetic history of prostate cancer to educate the individual on environmental risk factors. One thing that hasn’t been discussed is that consuming large amounts of animal fat in the diet can also increase risk for this disease (Kral et al., 2010). This is the item I would focus on for these physicians as a preventative measure to get the message out early about the importance of moderation and diet over time. Truly in regard to this disease process, education will be vital to success.

The risk factors of this disease is traveling somewhere where malaria is present, mosquito bites, not taking steps to protect yourself from this disease, and not taking your medication correctly so that you can be healed from this disease. The determinant is the environment, property, weather.
The public health strategies to improve the health from malaria is to protect yourself and your family from this disease by taking extra steps to educate yourself on malaria learn about the symptoms that you can go to the emergency to get treated before it get worse. Know what you do if you get bite by a mosquito so you can probably clean the infected site that they the disease will not spread. In conclusion it’s very important to look out for. Anything that don’t normally happen when it comes to your body go get it check by the doctor so you can be treated immediately.
